Dada, with UPOC, is the first company in the world to have launched mobile social networking services on the market
More than 3 million registered users in the US send more than 1 million messages per day
Florence, December 15, 2008
- An estimated 24 million Americans ages 18 to 29 cast their ballots in
the 2008 US presidential elections. Largely contributing to the success
of the increase in youth turnout was the campaign by Rock the Vote
(RTV) - a non-profit organization founded in 1990 to engage and build
the political power of young people - in collaboration with UPOC, the
Dada mobile community based in New York.
UPOC
assisted Rock the Vote with their mobilization of the young and first
time voter demographic, by organizing SMS groups and broadcasting vote
reminders to thousands of young voters who opted in for the service.
Since the company opened its doors in 1999, UPOC has always been the
leader in the mobile community sector. UPOC was the first company to
launch mobile social networking services and in May 2008 UPOC received
a Meffy Award, only given out to the top companies in the mobile
entertainment industry.
Due to its easy-to-use platform and thanks to the fact that users
constantly add new and interesting content to the community,
UPOC
today counts more than 3 million registered users that send more than 1
million messages per day, in addition to 40,000 active groups and more
than 30,000 micro-bloggers.
Up until a few
years ago, communication between mobile customers was limited to voice
communication or text messaging. Today, new data transmission
technology gives users the chance to access cutting edge mobile
community services. The mobile community services offered by UPOC
allows users to send text messages (SMS), images (MMS and voice
messages to their friend networks. These features allow users to share
their thoughts and day-to-day adventures with anyone they want to keep
in touch with on their friend network. One feature is the
"status-update", also called "Up2" ( ...what are you up to?). Users
also have the possibility of creating groups to meet new people or
discuss their interests. In just a few quick and easy steps, with a
single message information can be sent to all the members of a given
group or just the friends selected by the user.
Compared to other social networks that started on the web and then
became available on mobile devices with a subset of features, UPOC
stands out for being the first international mobile community in the
world. UPOC has been fully mobile from the beginning and then moved
onto a web interface. Perfectly integrated with other traditional
web-based social networks, UPOC users can synchronize their
status-update, Up2, with Facebook and MySpace.
"In
the United States we were able to create a successful business model
where our services and our technological platform are at the service of
users, who do what they know how to do best: create and build an online
communities in mobility, make new friends, share their interests and
keep in touch with friends. Following our success in the US, we decided
to export UPOC to India and Indonesia where most people use cellular
devices to connect to the internet and communicate with others" stated Paolo Barberis, founder and chairman of Dada.
