Registration of the domain .me takes off: Register.it is the only accredited Italian registrar for this domain
With the addition of the new domain .me, Register.it extends its current offer to 185 extensions
Florence, July 17, 2008
- Register.it, a Dada Group company offering internet services aimed at
developing the online presence of professionals and businesses, now
offers Italian clients the possibly to register their domain in the
extension .me, thanks to direct agreements with the Montenegrin
Authority, owner of the domain extension.
Today the
Montenegrin Authority officially opened registration to the public,
through accredited Registrars. Registration will take place on a first
come, first served basis. The word combinations that this extension can
have in Italian, English and Spanish are almost infinite: for example
in the e-commerce sector "read.me", "buy.me", "click.me" just to name a
few.
The domain .me was originally assigned to Montenegro. However, in light
of the numerous implications linked to this particular extension, the
Montenegrin Government agreed to liberalize it. Companies with
trademarks registered before June 26, 2006 and people who already had a
.yu domain extension (.yu Yugoslavian domains were converted into .me)
were given the chance to register in the preliminary registration
phase. The second phase, called the Land Rush, allowed anyone to
reserve a generic domain name. Assignment of .me domains begins at
4:00pm today in Italy, open to anyone who puts in a request. In the
pre-registration phase for .me there were more than 30,000 requests put
in to the Authority.
Register.it offers a completely automated procedure for the
registration of .me domains. Registered domains can be managed directly
through a control panel, where the user will find all necessary tools
for the management, creation and promotion of his/her website.
Registration of the domain .me will also be available in Spain and the
UK through Nominalia and Namesco, companies acquired by Dada. Together
with Register.it, Nominalia and Namesco are part of the international
business unit DadaPro, a leader in Europe in the provision of
professional online services.
